Balweg’s killer brought to Abra

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Former United Church of Christ of the Philippines pastor Francisco Bonuan, an alleged top ranking communist leader linked to the slay of rebel priest-turned paramilitary leader Conrado Balweg in 1999, was brought to Abra yesterday morning after he was caught by intelligence operatives on Saturday afternoon in Barangay Irisan.

Authorities had a warrant of arrest for Bonuan, who also assumes the alias Ka Cesar and Ka Jojo. At least 14 other left-leaning personalities, including some members of the clergy in the Ilocos region and some leaders of the Abra-based Agustin Begnalen Command of the CPP-NPA were tagged in Balweg’s slay. – Artemio Dumlao
