Tribal leaders prod Chavit on Senate bid

A delegation of tribal leaders from Mindanao urged Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis "Chavit" Singson to join the senatorial race in the May elections.

Datu Gabao and Datu Cayug are among these tribal leaders, who represent the Matigsalog, a confederation of indigenous peoples of Mindanao with about 411,000 members in the provinces of Bukidnon, Agusan, Cotabato and Davao.

Datu Gawilan, head and spokesman of the tribal group, said they have picked Singson as their candidate for senator because they are convinced that he will set aside his own personal interest and really work for the good of the country and the people.
