3 kidnapped linemen freed in Lanao Norte

BACOLOD, Lanao del Norte — Three linemen of an electric cooperative here, who were kidnapped by armed men last week, were released in Munai town last Tuesday afternoon.

Munai Mayor Casan Maquiling and second district Rep. Abdulllah Dimaporo, with the help of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) commander "Topsider," facilitated the release of Rodiardo Abe-Abe, Bonifacio Kalibo and Jingky Paglinawan, all linemen of the Lanao del Norte Electric Cooperative.

The three, who were snatched while on their way home from an energization project in Munai town, were released in Barangay Tamparan.

The Marines, the Philippine National Police, Bacolod Mayor Joselito Miquiabas and Maigo Mayor Rafael Rizalda lent their support during the final stage of the negotiations.

Local authorities denied giving any ransom to the kidnappers, who reportedly merely asked for a "board and lodging fee."

The kidnappers reportedly belong to a criminal group called the "Tunda Force."
