Davao City Hall workers get P1,000 salary increase

DAVAO CITY — Mayor Rodrigo Duterte ordered on Monday that an additional P1,000 a month be given to over 10,000 regular and contractual employees of the Davao City Hall to help them cope with the present economic crisis.

"After this round of increase, we shall have another form of subsidy by June, in time for the opening of classes. This is aimed at benefiting the children of the city government employees," Duterte said.

Aside from regular and non-plantilla workers, those who will be hired on a job-order basis will also get to enoy the salary increase.

The increase for the city hall employees shall be retroactive to January.

The City Budget Office pegged the increase to cost the city government at least P3 million a month and shall be taken from the Miscellaneous Personnel Source Funds.

According to City Administrator Wendel Avisado, the increase is temporary and will last until Congress acts on a pending legislation on the salary adjustment for state workers.

Avisado likewise said that there will be a subdued celebration of the 69th Araw ng Dabaw festivities next week as certain activities will be scrapped to save on expenditures.

The money saved from the Araw ng Dabaw celebration will be used instead to fund the increase of the salary of city hall employees.
