Kasangga calls for sobriety

The Kasangga at Gabay Foundation Inc. has called for sobriety and calmness in the people amid the agitated atmosphere fueled by the congressional investigations into the jueteng payola and the opposition’s tirades against President Arroyo whom it has asked to step down from the presidency.

Alvin Cabatit, Kasangga executive director, said the President needs all the support that the people can muster for her to preserve the economic gains of her administration.

"Sobriety and calmness should be foremost for the good of the country in situations like this when certain elements want to saw chaos and confusion. Our people must be firm in our support for the government and preserve the gains that we have achieved to hasten economic recovery," he said in a statement.

He said it is folly at this stage to disturb the peace and quiet that is much needed for a more speedy and undisturbed implementation of programs that can generate production and hasten the country’s progress.

Cabatit said the tax measures expected to beef up government revenues, lower our budget deficit and stabilize the government’s fiscal position have been approved and are now in place.

"All that is needed is further efficiency in collection and the right climate and focus on more production," he said.

"Any attempt to destabilize the present administration would only set back our economic recovery and stymie the program for more employment and production in our country," he added.
