Maganto disqualified

MALOLOS, Bulacan — Gov. Josefina de la Cruz can now bring out the champagne.

This, after the first division of the Commission on Elections disqualified yesterday her rival, retired police Chief Superintendent Romeo Maganto, from the gubernatorial race due to insufficient residency in the province, leaving De la Cruz unopposed.

Maganto entered the gubernatorial race as a substitute for his son, Rommel.

In a five-page decision, the Comelec’s first division discovered that Maganto was a registered voter in Metro Manila despite his declaration that he lives in Bustos town where he had been assigned before. — James Mananghaya
