Pa, son cause melee in hospital

BACOLOD CITY — A father and son caused a melee at a hospital here Saturday night when the former ran amuck, stabbing three patient watchers, and the latter jumping out of a window, injuring himself and a policeman.

Police said Elino Macalua, 60, of Laitan Baybay, Guihulngan, Negros Oriental, had not eaten for a number of days, causing him to be nervous and paranoid while watching his son, Sabino, 25, being treated for a stab wound at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

Macalua went on a rampage, attacking Lino Buen, 26, Illuminada Pielago, 62, and Catalina Trumpeta, 58, who were looking after sick family members at the hospital.

Security guards tried to pacify Macalua but he instead tried to attack them too, forcing them to shoot him in the upper right thigh.

Learning about the incident, Macalua’s son, broke the jalousy of a window at the hospital’s neuro-psycho ward and jumped out.

He landed on the roof of the medical insulation building. PO2 Rodrigo Juayang, a member of the city’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, tried to protect the young Macalua as he landed but the policeman himself sustained a sprain and a minor foot injury. — Antonieta Lopez
