Pagadian City radio reporter gunned down

ZAMBOANGA CITY — A radio reporter in Pagadian City was gunned down inside his residence on Sunday night, police reported yesterday.

Isabelo Maghuyop, 48, a field reporter of radio station dxID, was shot by his cousin inside his residence in Sabellano street, San Pedro district, Pagadian City.

Maghuyop, who suffered a gunshot wound in his right chest, was brought to Magboo Clinic in Pagadian City but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Witnesses told police that Maghuyop had a heated argument with his cousin, Bimboy Tianting, before the shooting incident.

According to Chief Superintendent Servando Hizon, Police Regional Office 9 director, the local police force have already launched a massive manhunt for the suspect who fled after the incident.

Meanwhile, a gunman was killed while a police officer was seriously wounded in a separate shooting incident Sunday night in Barangay Ayala, this city.

According to reports, PO2 Eduardo Covarrubias, son of Lt. Col. Fredesvindo Covarrubias, chief of the military’s 4th Civil Relation Group for Mindanao, was trying to serve an arrest warrant to a certain Jay Jimenez when he was shot by the suspect.

The police officers who were with Covarrubias retaliated and fired at Jimenez, killing him on the spot.
