Intensity 3 quake jolts Iloilo City

An Intensity 3 tectonic earthquake jolted Iloilo City at 3:20 p.m. on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said yesterday.

According to Phivolcs, the quake, which registered a magnitude 4.2 on the Richter Scale, was triggered by movement in the southern segment of the Panay fault at three kilometers.

Phivolcs said the quake is not expected to cause any damage or be followed by strong aftershocks.

Last Monday, an Intensity 2 tremor rocked the lakeshore town of Anini-y, Antique at 3:46 a.m.

Phivolcs seismologists said the Anini-y tremor was part of an earthquake swarm of an undetermined origin. The town of Anini-y is just three hours away from Iloilo City. Felix delos Santos
