The suspects were charged before the Municipal Trial Court here for robbery extortion yesterday, or three days after they arrested businessman Amar Preet Singh, 31, a native of Punjab India, at the Kadiwa Market this town.
Singh complained that after his arrest, the BID agents seized his residents visa, and other pertinent documents, including his passport, alien certificate of registration and marriage contract.
The group, according to Signh, demanded P100,000 from him in exchange for his passports and other papers but he only gave the group P10,000 as he has no money at that time.
Before the BID men left, an arrangement was made for the payment of the balance of P90,000 in exchange for the victims papers.
Despite positive identification by the victim, the suspects denied accusation saying they were on legitimate operation. However, when asked to present evidence of the legality of their operation, the suspects failed to present any documents.
