City administrator Efren Alvarez told newsmen here that this city was chosen as one of the pilot sites of the governments Solid Waste Management Program along with Legaspi and Butuan cities.
Alvarez said the local government has acquired a 25-hectare lot in Barangay Mapangpang to host the waste disposal facility, which can accommodate 300 metric tons of garbage daily.
"Within the next 100 years or so, the second district in Nueva Ecija will not be encountering any problems in solid waste disposal and management unlike Metro Manila, which is right now experiencing problems in garbage disposal and waste management," he said.
The waste disposal project includes the construction of a sanitary landfill, procurement of waste equipment such as garbage trucks and facilities for recovery of water materials for organic fertilizer making and methane-power generation.
This project will serve the provinces second district comprising this city, San Jose City and the municipalities of Carranglan, Llanera, Lupao, Pantabangan, Rizal and Talugtug.
