Bohol lawman tagged in Durano backer’s slay

CEBU CITY — An officer of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has been tagged as the alleged brains in the killing of a political supporter of Danao City Mayor Ramon Durano III two years ago.

The policeman is reportedly assigned in Bohol. His name was withheld pending the filing of charges against him.

Danao City police chief Agustin Lloveras said Reynaldo Banzon, a suspect in a robbery-murder case, provided police the lead that led to the arrest of a certain Marciano Oliverio, the alleged gunman in the killing of Eutiquiano Hermita, a former barangay head.

Oliverio, police said, implicated the police officer as having allegedly ordered Hermita’s killing at the height of the 2001 election campaign.

In an affidavit, Banzon claimed that sometime in November 2000, Oliverio told him the police officer ordered him to kill Hermita and that the police officer gave him a homemade .357 revolver to do it.

A check by The Freeman showed that the policeman is indeed assigned with the CIDG extension office in Tagbilaran City. Freeman News Service
