DepEd exec snatched in Agusan

BUTUAN CITY — A non-formal education supervisor of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Agusan del Sur was snatched by four motorcycle-riding men in San Francisco town last Sunday.

Meanwhile, a priest of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente in Sison, Surigao del Norte has been reported missing since Jan. 28.

A belated police report identified the abducted DepEd official as Danilo Magcanam, 57, a resident of Purok 7, Poblacion Trento, Agusan del Sur, and the missing priest as Fr. Melvino Resurreccion, a native of Cebu City but is assigned in Sison town.

Agusan del Sur police director Ramon Espiritu said police were still investigating the two cases.

Magcanam’s daughter Naome, 30, reported that he received a text message from his father hours after the abduction, saying he was kidnapped by four men on his way to Trento, Agusan del Sur.

Schools division superintendent Beatriz Omay said Mag—nacam could have been snatched due to work-related motives although she said he has no known enemies in the office.

There were no reports about a ransom demand as of press time.

The abduction was the second in the Caraga region this year after a Japanese national was kidnapped and later freed in San Jose, Surigao del Norte last week.

Meanwhile, members of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente said Resurreccion was last seen boarding a green passenger jeepney bound for Butuan City last Jan. 28. He has not returned to Sison town since then.
