Earthquakes jolt Cagayan de Oro City

An earthquake swarm triggered by the Cabanglasan Fault jolted Cagayan de Oro City early yesterday morning.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the tectonic quakes were felt at Intensity 3 at 7:45 a.m., at Intensity 2 in at 9:21 a.m. and at 9:25 a.m.; at Intensity 3 at 9:40 a.m., at Intensity 2 at 9:42 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 11:02 a.m., and at 11:09 a.m.; at Intensity 3 at 11:14 a.m. and at Intensity 1 at 11:17 a.m.

Phivolcs said the epicenter of the earthquake swarm was located at 26 kilometers east of Cagayan de Oro City.

Cabanglasan Fault in Bukidnon province, traverses through the town of Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, and Barangay Bugo, Cagayan de Oro City.

The first tremor that occurred at exactly 7:45 a.m. registered a Magnitude 3.8 on the Richter Scale, Phivolcs added.

Phivolcs said that the tremor is not expected to cause damage in the affected areas.
