Guard hurt in Cavite bank rob

IMUS, Cavite — Five hea—vily armed men, one of them posing as a client, robbed the Metrobank branch in Imus yesterday, Cavite, wounding a security guard and fleeing with only P47,000 in cash after failing to open the vault.

Senior Superintendent Samuel Pagdilao, Cavite police director, said the robbers, brandishing M-16 assault rifles, struck at about 10:50 a.m., barely 20 minutes after a police patrol passed by the bank along the Aguinaldo Highway in Barangay Anabu II.

One of the robbers, according to Pagdilao, first entered the bank posing as a client, after which his four cohorts, wearing ski masks, arrived aboard a Mitsubishi Adventure and fired at security guard Ponciano Porio, 38, of Trinity Security Agency.

Once inside, the robbers ordered the bank’s employees and clients to lie on the floor while they tried to open the vault but failed. They instead scooped all the cash from the two bank tellers and fled.

The robbers’ getaway car was found abandoned at Golden City Subdivision in Barangay Malagasang II, also in Imus.

Pagdilao said investigators were looking at certain groups which could have pulled off the heist. With Ed Amoroso
