Negros bus terminal torched

Armed men claiming to be communist rebels attacked the Ceres Liner terminal in Hinobaan town in Negros Occidental Friday night and torched four of its buses. Surprisingly, no one was hurt.

Belated reports reaching the AFP Central Command in Cebu City said at least 30 armed men who identified themselves to the lone security guard as member of the New People’s Army entered the bus compound at 9:30 p.m. Friday. They searched the place and found some gasoline which they poured on the buses before setting them afire.

As the buses burned, the rebels withdrew just a quickly without any other incident.

A radio message from the Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade based in Negros Occidental did not mention any motive for the attack.

Rainier Perales, the branch manager of Ceres in Honobaan, told The Freeman in a telephone interview that the company never received any demand letter from the rebels seeking payment of revolutionary taxes.Freeman
