Lapid, Berroya settle row

SAN FERNANDO CITY, Pampanga — Gov. Lito Lapid and Chief Superintendent Reynaldo Berroya, Central Luzon police director, kissed and made up yesterday over who should be appointed the provincial police director.

"All is well between us now," Lapid told The STAR after his lunch meeting with Berroya who promised to submit to the governor a list of three nominees for the position.

Provincial administrator Benalfre Galang said Lapid had agreed to retain Senior Superintendent Arturo Cacdac as officer-in-charge of the Pampanga police. Berroya appointed Cacdac without Lapid’s approval last Thursday.

Lapid earlier had recommended Senior Superintendent Efren Alamares to the post, to replace Senior Superintendent Rafael Rafanan who had retired.

The governor, however, agreed to Cacdac’s temporary designation since the ban on government appointments is in effect in view of the barangay elections this July. Ding Cervantes
