Mayon gives out bright crater glow

LEGAZPI CITY — A bright glow was observed at the crater of Mayon Volcano for 10 and a half hours starting 6 p.m. Tuesday, volcanologists said.

This, as incandescent volcanic materials rolled down from the summit in at least six episodes, the first one at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Volcanologist Alex Baloloy, however, said the volume of magma rising toward the crater "is still low."

Alert level 3, of a maximum 5, is still in effect around the volcano, meaning it can erupt anytime. — Celso Amo, Felix de los Santos
