4 wounded in NPA ambush

ZAMBOANGA CITY — About 30 New People’s Army guerrillas ambushed a convoy of vehicles owned by a logging company in Surigao del Sur last Saturday, wounding four militiamen escorting the firm’s employees, the military said.

The attack occurred between Kilometers 61 and 62 in Tago town at about 8 a.m., according to Col. Hilario Atendido, spokesman of the Armed Forces’ Southern Command.

Atendido identified the wounded militiamen as Lito Cabugas, Gaudencio Layno, Marcelino Rivas and Nilo Lamila.

He said the convoy of vehicles owned by the Sudecor company, was en route to the Puyat compound when the rebels opened fire. The guerrillas withdrew after shooting it out with the militiamen for 10 minutes. Roel Pareño
