MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) demolished the “kubol” (cubicle) of convicted car theft ring leader Raymond Dominguez at the New Bibilid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City following another raid that yielded banned items yesterday.
NBP Superintendent Richard Schwarzkopf Jr. said prison officers tore down Dominguez’s kubol, where they found mobile phones, drug paraphernalia and an air-conditioning unit.
Schwarzkopf said two dormitories at the maximum security compound were raided.
He said quadrants 1 and 2 house members of the Batang City Jail, Batang Cebu and Batang Mindanao gangs.
Seized during the raid were several appliances, six cell phones, four luxury wristwatches, 10 knives, fighting cocks and P34,000 in cash.
The BuCor demolished a hardware-like kubol brimming with sacks of sand, gravel and steel.
Dominguez and other inmates face suspension of their visitation rights for keeping the contraband, Schwarzkopf said.
The BuCor earlier required visitors to submit biometric samples to discourage the smuggling of prohibited items inside the 19-hectare national penitentiary.
Schwarzkopf said the raids would continue until the prison complex is cleared of illegal drugs, firearms and other contraband.
