MANILA, Philippines - A 32-year-old Chinese-Filipino businessman was killed while his wife, who is nine months pregnant, was wounded in an ambush in Sta. Cruz, Manila Sunday afternoon.

Alem Lu was driving his BMW sport utility vehicle along Dimasalang street when a still unidentified assailant shot at the vehicle repeatedly at the corner of Aragon street at around 3 p.m.

Lu died at the scene while his wife, Ou Yang Mei Qui, was treated at the St. Jude Hospital for a gunshot wound in the right shoulder.

Security guard Alejandro Alindayo, 41, who was on duty at the Florida Bus terminal, was hit in the back and taken to the same hospital.

Witnesses told Police Officer 3 Alonzo Layugan that the assailant had been waiting in the area minutes before the shooting.

The couple was on their way home after spending time in Valenzuela City, where they had a business.

After the attack, the assailant ran toward a waiting Hi-Ace van, which sped in the direction of the University of Sto. Tomas.
