MANILA, Philippines - Some 300 kilos of double-dead meat or “botcha” were recovered in a surprise inspection at a public market in Quezon City yesterday.
Maria Ana Cabel, head of the city veterinary services office, said the contaminated meat was confiscated during an inspection of the Commonwealth Market before dawn yesterday.
Last week, she said their personnel confiscated over 80 kilos of double-dead meat at Balintawak Market.
Cabel said they expect an increase in the proliferation of contaminated meat as the holiday season draws nearer.
“We will continue with our surprise inspections to ensure that no contaminated meat is sold to the public,” she said.
The city official advised the public to scrutinize the products that they would purchase to ensure their safety, stressing that contaminated meat could endanger the lives of consumers.
Cabel said the city government will properly dispose of the confiscated meat.
