MANILA, Philippines – Two suspected carjackers were killed after they traded shots with operatives of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) in Barangay Pinyahan at dawn yesterday.

Police officers were manning a checkpoint along NIA Road when they spotted the suspects on a stolen motorcycle, Chief Inspector Richard Ian Ang, head of the Quezon City Police District’s anti-car theft unit, said.

Ang said policemen ordered the suspects to pull over but they refused and sped away, prompting police officers to give chase until the suspects’ motorcycle crashed.

Instead of yielding, the suspects pulled their firearms, triggering a shootout.

Police have yet to identify the suspects who died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.

Prior to the shootout, a carjacking incident was reported along 20th Avenue in Cubao at around 11:45 p.m. on Friday.

Beverly Rizalon, 25, a factory worker, said she was driving a motorcycle when the two suspects blocked her path and took the vehicle at gunpoint.

Rizalon reported the incident to the Project 4 police station, which sought assistance from the QCPD anti-car theft unit.

Following the shootout, Rizalon identified the slain suspects as the ones who stole her motorcycle.

Police recovered from the suspects two .38 caliber revolvers.
