MANILA, Philippines - Twenty-five overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) returned home Tuesday from Syria, bringing the total number of repatriates from the war-torn country to 5,604, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
The OFWs arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on an Emirates Airlines flight, the DFA said.
It said the Filipino workers traveled by land from Damascus to Beirut.
Personnel of the Philippine embassy in Beirut assisted the repatriates during their transit to the Lebanese Masna’a border. The International Organization for Migration in Damascus shouldered their airfare.
Embassy officials said they are working on the repatriation of another group of OFWs who were granted exit visas by the Syrian government.
