MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City council has asked the Department of Education to provide funds for the construction of additional buildings in three public schools in the city.
The council recently approved three resolutions for the construction of additional buildings at the President Corazon C. Aquino Elementary School, Payatas B Elementary School and Doña Juana Elementary School.
Second district Councilor Precious Hipolito-Castelo, author of the measures, said there are proposals for the construction of four-story buildings in each school, with the number of classrooms ranging from eight to 16.
“The implementation of the K to 12 basic education program and the increase in the number of enrollees caused shortage of classrooms,” read the measure.
“Education is an investment that the government can make for the future of the people and a vital component in reducing poverty and inequality,” it added.
Payatas B Elementary School has over 5,100 students and the Doña Juana Elementary School has more than 6,800 enrollees. The President Corazon C. Aquino Elementary School has 8,533 students.
