MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will be implementing road closures along sections of Dimasalang street in Manila for the next two months to pave the way for an P8.626-million road rehabilitation project.
The road repair, scheduled from Feb. 17 to April 17, entails pavement concreting and drainage improvement.
The construction area covers 276.5 lineal meters of Dimasalang street spanning V.G. Cruz, Cristobal, A. Maceda, Blumentritt, Becerra and Maria Clara streets, DPWH-North Manila district engineer Medel Chua said.
The DPWH divided the project implementation into two stages. The first stage involves the reconstruction of the concrete pavement at the southbound lane in Sta. Cruz, from Dimasalang Bridge to Maria Clara street.
It also includes concreting work at the northbound lane from V.G. Cruz to Cristobal and at the one-way road portion of Blumentritt, all within Sampaloc.
The second stage will start upon completion of the first phase of the project. It covers the other road lanes with improvement of drainage systems and reinforcement of concrete manholes.
DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson has instructed the project contractor, MCB Zamora Construction and Supply, to hire Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA)-trained aides to help ease traffic congestion in the area during the repair work.
Singson said 10 MMDA traffic aides with two-way radio communication would be employed to augment traffic enforcers and city hall personnel.
