MANILA, Philippines - Construction of the 63-story condominium in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig is likely to resume weeks after two workers died when a portion of the building collapsed on Feb. 4.
Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz yesterday said the Makati Development Corp. (MDC), contractor of the project, agreed to comply with labor standards and occupational safety regulations leading to the lifting of the work stoppage order (WSO).
Baldoz said the MDC had submitted to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) its construction safety and health program as well as the names of the 20 subcontractors involved in the construction of The Suites along 28th street in BGC.
The company has provided P220,000 and P150,000 in financial assistance to the families of Ruben Racraquin and Renan de la Cruz, respectively.
Racraquin and De la Cruz died after a portion of the building collapsed while they were pouring cement on the upper floor.
Eleven other workers suffered minor injuries. The workers were subcontracted by MDC from Fastem Construction.
The DOLE said Fastem shouldered the hospitalization of the injured workers.
