MANILA, Philippines - Four persons were injured in a fire that destroyed 10 homes in Barangay San Antonio in Makati City at past midnight yesterday.

Roberto Alba, 60; Evangeline Alba, 57; Ramon de Llumos, 40; and Senior Fire Officer 3 Elpidio Iguid, 40, suffered slight injuries, according to city fire marshal Ricardo Perdigon.

The fire started just before 1 a.m. and spread through a row of houses along St. Paul street, he said.

The blaze reached third alarm before it was put out by firefighters from Makati and Pasig around 50 minutes later.

Perdigon said the cause of the fire – the first reported for the year in Makati – is still being probed by arson investigators.

The damage caused by the fire was initially estimated by Perdigon at around P500,000 as the houses burned were mostly made of light materials.
