MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City prosecutor’s office has recommended the filing of criminal charges against a driver who dragged a Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic constable along EDSA in Cubao on Friday.
Assistant City Prosecutor Corazon Roman recommended the filing of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injury against Mark Ian Libunao, who dragged MMDA traffic enforcer Sonny Acosta as he tried to flee from a traffic violation.
He was also charged with driving with an expired driver’s license, according to MMDA.
Reports said Acosta remains in critical condition as he sustained head injuries on his head following the incident.
The MMDA constable flagged the sport utility vehicle driven by Libunao at a bus loading bay along EDSA past 9 a.m. on Friday.
However, instead of surrendering his license, the driver allegedly rolled up his window and sped off, dragging Acosta, whose arm was still stuck in the vehicle.
Libunao was arrested Friday night in San Miguel, Bulacan after the police traced the plate number of the vehicle to a certain Dante Borguete. The suspect works as a driver of Borguete’s father-in-law, police said.
The inquest prosecutor set bail at P8,000.
