MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Grace Poe has asked Philippine National Police chief Director General Alan Purisima to provide her office with the details of the PNP’s ongoing acquisition of patrol jeeps.
In a letter to Purisima, Poe said she has received reports that some suppliers that “are new and without service centers… are being favored.”
She also noted that P918 million would be sourced from the 2014 General Appropriations Act and that P500 million of this has already been readied for utilization.
“We are requesting the information in exercise of the Senate’s oversight function,” Poe said.
It was earlier reported that the PNP is purchasing over 1,000 patrol jeeps on top of the previous 560 that it purchased earlier this year.
