MANILA, Philippines - Three children who were playing behind a parked jeepney in Caloocan City died after a wayward truck hit them Friday afternoon, police said yesterday.
Police identified the fatalities as Javis Gestupan, 9; Jerwin Mendoza, 7; and Adrian Boison, 6.
They died while being treated at the Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Hospital in Tala following the accident near their homes in Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, according to Police Officer 3 Michael Calora of the Caloocan police traffic sector.
Calora said Randy Molo, 30, lost control of the truck and hit the three children before slamming into a parked jeepney at around 3 p.m.
The incident also damaged a wall of a residential building in the area, police said.
Reports said the families of the victims decided not to press charges against suspect, whose company promised to shoulder the funeral expenses and provide P50,000 each to the relatives of the children.
