Woman slain in Mandaluyong home

MANILA, Philippines - A businesswoman was stabbed in her house in Mandaluyong City yesterday.

Maria Luisa Ramirez, 39, sustained several stab wounds and was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.

Ramirez’s husband, Rodel, told police they were supposed to go to their grocery store but he had gone ahead to get their vehicle at around 4 a.m. when she was attacked.

Rodel said he ran back to the house when he heard his wife shouting for help. He said he saw a man rush out but did not stop him. He found his wife lying on the floor, bloodied.

Rodel said his wife was carrying P5,000, which he reported as missing. Witnesses led police officers to a nearby canal, where the victim’s cell phone, a fan knife and an icepick were found.
