MANILA, Philippines – A four-hour fire broke out at a furniture warehouse in San Juan City yesterday, destroying P5 million worth of property.
No one was hurt in the fire that started at the SCT Furnishing Corp. along R.J. Fernandez street in Barangay Batis at about 1 a.m. yesterday, said city fire marshal Inspector Eli Pimwat.
Residents claimed they noticed smoke billowing from the roof of the warehouse before the fire broke out. Using fire extinguishers, workers tried to put out the fire but failed.
Witnesses told Pimwat that the fire spread quickly toward other parts of the warehouse, where cotton and foam products are stored.
A firewall saved a nearby slaughterhouse operated by the city from being engulfed by flames.
The fire was put out at around 5 a.m. Arson investigators have yet to determine what caused the fire.
