MANILA, Philippines - A 40-year-old man was arrested after he was seen casing a police community precinct in Malabon City while carrying a grenade at the height of Tropical Storm Mario before dawn Thursday.
Joel Cuerpo, who was arrested at around 3:30 a.m., admitted that Romeo Calacad ordered him to throw the grenade at the precinct on Gov. Pascual street.
Calacad is now the subject of a manhunt, police said.
Investigators said they received information that a man would lob a grenade at the precinct anytime that day. Precinct commander Inspector Alan Apa ordered police officers to be on the lookout for suspicious individuals in the vicinity of the precinct.
Malabon police are looking into Calacad’s background to determine why he wanted to bomb the station.
