MANILA, Philippines - The mother of alleged robbery gang chief Jonathan Cuya was shot dead at their house in Quezon City Thursday night.
Efipania David-Cuya, 51, was killed by an unidentified man, who pretended to be asking for an available room that she was renting out, said Police Officer 2 Louie Serbito.
The man went to the victim’s house at past 6 p.m. and initially talked to tenant Anthony Balagtas. When Cuya came down the stairs, the assailant pulled out a gun and shot her in the chest.
Superintendent Osmundo de Guzman, commander of the Quezon City Police District-Station 1, said there was an unconfirmed tip that the victim may have been ordered killed by a drug group, thinking she was an anti-drug informant.
The victim’s son, Jonathan, and his alleged cohorts were arrested in March after policemen tailed them to a resort in Olongapo City where he and his father went on vacation following a robbery.
Policemen traced the location of the suspects based on vacation photos they had posted on social networking site Facebook.
