MANILA, Philippines - A woman filed charges yesterday against a rookie policeman and three others for allegedly beating up her father, who owns an eatery in Tondo, Manila.
Amor Dalisay told investigators at the Manila Police District’s General Investigation Section that her father, Noel, is still confined at the UST Hospital after he was allegedly beaten by Police Officer 1 Voltaire Yu Lazaro on Aug. 3.
Amor said about 12:45 a.m. that day, her father, then under the influence of alcohol, bumped into a child while placing a bet in a saklaan (gambling joint).
Lazaro’s group, who happened to be there, got irked, said Amor.
This led to a verbal tussle until Noel was accompanied home by one of his neighbors.
According to his wife Wilma, Noel went back to the saklaan, this time armed with bottles, to avenge himself on Lazaro and his group, who beat Noel until he lost consciousness.
Amor alleged that even after her father passed out, Lazaro pistol-whipped him.
She said doctors told them they would need about P200,000 to realign his bones.
