MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City government announced yesterday it has completed a massive cleanup of the city’s waterways to minimize flooding, especially during heavy downpours.
In a report to Mayor Herbert Bautista, city engineer Joselito Cabungcal said more than 20 waterways were covered by “Operation: Linis Daluyan ng Tubig,” which began May 17.
Aside from the clean-up operation, the engineering department’s maintenance management division has also declogged the drainpipes along more than 30 major streets.
The city government’s barangay operations center, headed by Jorge Felipe, also mobilized its 142 barangays for a cleanup drive to address health concerns in the communities, especially dengue and other illnesses prevalent during the rainy season.
