CBCP wants One Direction banned from Phl

MANILA, Philippines - Amid reports that some members of popular boy band One Direction were allegedly caught smoking marijuana, an official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said yesterday the English-Irish group should be banned from performing in the country.

CBCP Episcopal Commission on Youth (ECY) executive secretary Fr. Conegundo Garganta said he is in favor of not allowing the singers of the hit songs “What Makes You Beautiful” and “One Thing” to enter the country.

Garganta called on President Aquino to ban the group from performing in a two-day concert in March 2015.

He said parents should not lead their children in the “wrong direction.”

Garganta also said concert organizers should practice discernment on who they should invite to perform in the country.

“I think that even the local organizers do not want to have a culture of youth being stoned. That could become a problem for them,” he said.
