2 dead, 2 hurt in Makati grenade blast

MANILA, Philippines - Two persons were killed while two others were wounded in a grenade-throwing incident in Makati City yesterday morning.

A man wearing a ski mask threw the grenade at a house on the corner of Lawton and Kalayaan Avenues in Barangay West Rembo at around 8:45 a.m., Makati police chief Senior Superintendent Manuel Lukban said.

The grenade, intended for a man identified only as “Butchoy,” did not immediately explode. Joseph Teodones, 37, picked up the grenade and tried to throw it away but it exploded, Lukban said.

He died on the scene while Helen Due died yesterday afternoon while being treated at the Ospital ng Makati.

Butchoy and a bystander, Helen de Ocampo, were hurt in the explosion.

The Makati police is still investigating the incident.
