QC: Expect traffic gridlocks during INC mission

MANILA, Philippines - Motorists should “brace for heavy traffic” near Amoranto Sports Complex on May 9 due to an Iglesia ni Cristo evangelical mission, the Quezon City government said in an advisory yesterday.

Mayor Herbert Bautista said the mission could clog up Roces and Quezon Avenues as well as other roads.

He said the initial plan is to convert a portion of Scout Chuatoco street, from Mother Ignacia Avenue to Scout Reyes street, to a one-way road starting at noon on May 9 until the end of the activity.

However, public order and safety chief Elmo San Diego said the street, as well as Roces Avenue, could both be completely closed to vehicular traffic and exclusively dedicated to pedestrians, depending on the crowd turnout.

San Diego said a rerouting scheme may be implemented if that happens.

The initial crowd estimate for the event – which is on the eve of the 128th birth anniversary of INC founder and first executive minister Felix Manalo – is at least 50,000, he added.
