MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) yesterday said there would be no reblocking along EDSA this weekend.
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said they suspended the reblocking work on EDSA in anticipation of the massive traffic to be generated by the evangelical mission of the Iglesia ni Cristo in Pasay City on Saturday and the visit of US President Barack Obama on April 28.
Contractors of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have yet to finish reblocking work on a 2,000-square meter portion of EDSA.
The reblocking work should have been completed during the Holy Week break. But the contractors failed to finish it on time.
The MMDA has sent letters to the contractors asking for their explanation for the delay.
Tolentino said the contractors will be made to pay a fine of P25,000 each if their explanations are not acceptable.
The MMDA has identified at least three erring DPWH contractors involved in the unfinished reblocking work.
