3 students accused of manhandling prof

MANILA, Philippines - A professor at the Rizal Technological University (RTU) in Mandaluyong City has accused three students of manhandling him apparently out of jealousy.

Jonathan Castañeda said the timely intervention of RTU security guards prevented the suspects from inflicting harm on him.

Castañeda told police he was rushing out of the school’s main gate after his class was dismissed when he saw his former student, Melody Pano, accompanied by the suspects identified as Patrick de Guzman, Hynzel Nobleza and Ivan Korjevich de Joya.

The three suspects are taking up Engineering and Information Technology at the RTU.

The professor said he greeted Pano, who politely answered back with a smile.

Upon seeing the exchange of greetings, De Guzman, allegedly Pano’s boyfriend, got jealous and confronted Castañeda.

He added De Guzman shouted at him and challenged him to a fistfight.

The incident caught the attention of students and bystanders near the gate, he said.

Castañeda said Nobleza and De Joya grabbed his hands and dragged him at the dark portion of the road.

But before the suspects could inflict harm on him, security guards came to his rescue.

Meanwhile, Jackielyn Hismillo, a student of RTU, filed grave threat complaint against her classmate Cristel de Veyra and her aunt.

Hismillo told police that she and her other classmates identified as Regine Maila Gonzales, 21, Darly Caluscusin, 21 and Rolando de la Cruz were in a classroom when Cristel and her aunt warned her not to come out as something bad would happen to her.

The two left when she sought assistance from the nearby barangay hall, Hismillo said.
