Cop who killed ex-girlfriend’s lover charged

MANILA, Philippines - A police official from Angono, Rizal who killed his ex-girlfriend’s lover was charged with murder before the Manila city prosecutor’s office Friday.

Inspector Briccio Reamillo, deputy commander of the Angono police station, had surrendered to Manila Police District homicide investigators who went to the police station to apprehend him, according to Senior Police Officer 1 Mario Asilio.

On Wednesday night, Reamillo had gone to the house of his former girlfriend, Loreta Onecer. He pounded on the door and when Onecer opened it, he saw her and her lover, Rizalino Regel, 33.

Reamillo shot Regel in the chest. “I felt something wrong, as if he was about to do something, so I got him first,” he told investigators in Filipino.

According to an MPD report, Reamillo dragged Onecer out into the street, trying to force her to reconcile with him. Onecer broke free and ran back to Regel, who died in a hospital the next day.

Reamillo, who is being held in the MPD homicide division office, was unaware that he killed Regel when he surrendered, MPD homicide chief Inspector Steve Casimiro said.

“He was in the (Angono) police station, apparently waiting for us,” Casimiro said.
