One dead, minor hurt in Navotas shooting

MANILA, Philippines - A man was killed while a boy living in the area was wounded in a shooting in Navotas City yesterday.

Two unidentified men on a motorcycle shot dead Aldrin Alcantara in Barangay North Bay Boulevard South (NBBS) at around 10:15 a.m., said Navotas police chief Senior Superintendent Conrado Gongon.

Gongon said Police Officer 2 Leonardo Martin, assigned at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Camp Crame, chanced upon the incident and responded by shooting at the attackers. The two, however, were able to escape using their motorcycle.

Meanwhile, 11-year-old Eric Midinilla of Martiniko street in Barangay NBBS was hurt by a stray bullet following the incident. The extent of the injuries he suffered has yet to be released. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in Manila for treatment.

Members of the Scene of the Crime Operatives rushed to the scene following the shooting. Police are conducting further investigation into the circumstances involving the incident.
