Nothing wrong with Binay daughter’s winning – CSC

MANILA, Philippines - The Civil Service Commission (CSC) sees nothing wrong or illegal in Makati City Rep. Abigail Binay winning a condominium unit in a raffle draw.

“Absolutely nothing wrong because there is no law, there is no circular that will disallow elective and appointive officials from participating in programs such as raffle promos of certain companies for as long as the raffle is given with the DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) supervising the whole process,” CSC chairperson Francisco Duque said yesterday.

Duque said the congresswoman, daughter of Vice President Jejomar Binay, can accept the condominium unit she won from the Rockwell Power Plant Mall raffle draw.

The younger Binay won one of the smallest residential units at The Grove residential complex in Pasig City, Rockwell announced through its Facebook page last Sunday.

Duque also opined that Binay is being criticized because of politics.

“I think some people are putting malice into it, some netizens, because she’s a Binay. Otherwise, if she was an ordinary citizen, I don’t think this whole controversy would have begun anyway,” Duque said.

The Vice President just “ignored” the issue, his spokesman Joey Salgado said. – Michael Punongbayan, Jose Rodel Clapano
