PDEA bares new method of making ‘party drug’

MANILA, Philippines - Following the recent seizure of P1 million worth of illegal drugs at a high-end condominium in Makati, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) revealed yesterday a new method of manufacturing a “party drug” with the use of kitchen utensils.

PDEA director general Arturo Cacdac, Jr. said the suspects used ordinary kitchen utensils to concoct the new mixture, called “fly high,” which is increasingly popular among club and party-goers.

“They grind together shabu, ecstasy and Chinese viagra called ‘cialis’ using a mortar and pestle, then pulverize them further with a blender to become powder and repack (the mix) into capsules, ” he said.

The PDEA identified the mixture as a new variety of ecstasy in December last year after a drug bust in Quezon City where 38 capsules were seized.

The capsules retrieved from the operation were only shabu-laced ecstasy, while the drugs recovered from the operation in Makati Prime Tower on Jan. 18 were mixed with Chinese viagra.

During the most recent raid, three suspects were arrested, including a showbiz writer and an interior designer, while some 400 capsules of assorted dangerous drugs, 192 grams of shabu and ecstasy were seized.

Cacdac said “fly high” consumers usually belong to the upper class.
