MANILA, Philippines - A fire of still unknown origin engulfed a large portion of the MC Home Depot at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig before dawn yesterday.
According to Senior Inspector Vener Sevilla of the city’s fire department, the fire started at around 1:28 a.m. from the depot’s do-it-yourself section and quickly spread, destroying several stalls as it reached fifth alarm.
The fire destroyed more than P10 million worth of property before it was put out by 4 a.m., he said.
Sevilla said no one was killed or injured in the blaze as BGC security officers helped secure the area.
According to Sevilla, responding firefighters had a difficult time entering the burning depot as its fire control system did not work. “There were no sprinklers and there was no water in the fire hose cabinets,†he said.
Sevilla said arson investigators will look into why the depot’s fire control system did not work.
Meanwhile, Sevilla said investigation will also look into the connection between the depot fire and the power interruption that hit the BGC just before the fire struck.
