MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Population (PopCom) yesterday advised folk singer Freddie Aguilar and his 16-year-old girlfriend to delay pregnancy.
“For health reasons, not so much for the social pressure,†PopCom executive director Dr. Juan Antonio Perez III said in an ambush interview.
He said that at 16, Aguilar’s girlfriend “is not really that prepared†to become a mother.
Perez said pregnancy could also affect the teenager’s future. Her dreams of taking up a college course “might be diverted by an untimely pregnancy,†he said.
