MANILA, Philippines -The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed multiple criminal charges against two alleged gunmen in the attack on businesswoman Christina Decena.
Suspects Police Officer 1 Melvin Waga of the Pasig police and dismissed policeman Henry Quiñones were charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of frustrated murder before the Quezon City prosecutor’s office Friday night.
Decena; her son Dan, 22; and maid Helen Felesco had just gotten out of a restaurant along Banaue and Simoun street in Quezon City when two gunmen on a motorcycle shot at their vehicle.
Decena said the assassins missed her because they focused on the middle portion of their Hyundai van. Dan and Decena were unscathed, while Helen suffered a head wound when shards from the shattered windows hit her.
After the ambush, Decena opted to seek the NBI’s help. In one of the conversations with the agents, Decena said she is thinking of getting a gun.
“I won’t let them be the only ones to use a gun,†she said.
Quiñones was arrested by the Manila Police District (MPD), while Waga remains at large.
“I want them to feel what I felt during my ordeal,†Decena told reporters when Quiñones was presented in a press conference at the MPD last Friday.
Decena said she has been using a bullet- and bomb-proof car since the attack.
