NCRPO chief names 5 crime-prone areas

MANILA, Philippines - Police officers under the National Capital Region Police Office should work on reducing crimes by half in five areas in Metro Manila, NCRPO director Chief Superintendent Marcelo Garbo said yesterday.

He noted the large number of street crimes in Monumento, Caloocan City; Baclaran in Pasay City; University Belt in Manila; Kalentong, Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City, and EDSA and corner of Aurora Boulevard, and E. Rodriguez Avenue, in Quezon City.

“Give emphasis on street crimes. Reduce street crimes by 50 percent,” Garbo said in his directive to his district directors.

The NCRPO chief attributed the large number of crimes – he did not release statistics – in these five areas to heavy foot and vehicular traffic.

Garbo ordered police forces to set up collapsible outposts in the five crime-prone areas to protect police officers from the elements “so that they will not leave their post.” He said the outposts will be inspected daily.

He also required police commanders to be accurate in reporting crime statistics and crime trend analysis so the data they gather can be used effectively.
